A third-party message transfer agent (MTA) cannot decode an e-mail message that was sent from Exchange Server 5.5

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You are running some Microsoft Outlook clients that have the Protek P772 extension installed. These Outlook clients connect to a Microsoft Exchange 2000 server. You send an e-mail message with an attachment to a user who is in a third-party X.400 mail system. For example, the user uses a Nexor X.400 mail system. Then, the e-mail message is sent in the following order:
The e-mail message is sent from the Exchange 2000 server to a Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5.
The Exchange 5.5 server sends the e-mail message to the third-party mail system through an X.400 connector.
In this scenario, the third-party message transfer agent (MTA) cannot decode the e-mail message.
