Embedded images do not appear in a programmatically sent e-mail message

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When you programmatically send an e-mail message that contains embedded (inline) images to a Microsoft Outlook client, the images may not appear either in the preview pane or in the body of the message when the recipient opens the message. The locations where you expect the images to appear display a placeholder containing a red X character.

If the recipient closes the message, selects another message, and then re-opens or previews the original message, the images appear correctly.
