The SQL Server Net-Libraries have been changed to add support
for the QLogic card. The support that is added for the QLogic card is to sustain SQL
Server with the new technologies, especially on 64-bit platforms.
The
added support for the QLogic card enables a significant improvement in TPC-C benchmark (TPC-C benchmark is a popular measure for comparing Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) performance on various hardware and software
configurations) on the new Itanium processor systems.
Additionally,
while you use QLogic support feature, you may get the high scalability for Service Advertising Protocol (SAP)
Applications that are running on 64-bit computers. SAP applications already have high
scalability on 32-bit computers.
The QLogic support feature is also
necessary for handling the processor workloads of Independent Software Vendor
(ISV) Applications such as SAP, Siebel, PeopleSoft and JDE that are running on
both 32-bit and 64-bit computers. With QLogic support feature, you may gain the
ISV workloads between 15-30%.
The added support for the QLogic card
does not change the existing SQL Server Net-Libraries support for ServerNetII
or cLAN Networks.
