"There is no such object on the server" error message when you configure filtering by using Exchange System Manager

Symptoms

In Exchange System Manager, when you right-click Message Delivery, click Properties, and then click the Connection Filter tab, you receive the following error message:
There is no such object on the server.

When you click the Sender Filtering or Recipient Filtering tabs, and then click Apply to apply the values that you configured, you receive the following error message:
The specified directory service attribute or value does not exist.

Cause

This problem occurs when you try to configure filtering on an Exchange Server 2003 computer that is an administration server that is a member of a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server organization. The Sender Filtering and Recipient Filtering options cannot be configured in an organization that does not have an Exchange Server 2003 computer as a member.

Workaround

To work around this problem, configure filtering options from a server that is running Exchange 2000 Exchange System Manager. For more information, see the Set Message Filtering topic in Exchange 2000 Help.
