Nslookup Does Not Work Correctly When You Use a Search Order of Seven or More Domain Suffixes

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When you use the Nslookup tool with a DNS server that has a domain suffix search order of seven or more entries, only five domain suffixes are resolved correctly. The sixth domain suffix appears as a combination of all the remaining domain suffixes (each separated by commas). The seventh and later domain suffixes are dropped by Nslookup and are not listed individually.

For example, if you run the following query
Nslookup: set all
a search list that is similar to the following is returned:
srchlist=domain1.com/domain2.com/domain3.com/domain4.com/domain5.com/domain6.com,domain7.com,domain8.com,domain9.com
