Cause

This problem may occur if one of the following is true:
The Information Store service is not running on the Exchange server where the Mailbox Manager service is trying to run.
The mailbox store that contains the System Attendant mailbox has not mounted.
In these scenarios, the Exchange System Attendant cannot connect to the database that stores the System Attendant mailbox. Mailbox Manager runs as part of the System Attendant.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, verify that the Information Store service is running and that the mailbox store that contains the System Attendant mailbox has mounted. To do this, follow these steps:
1.Verify that the Information Store service is running. To verify that the information store is running, do the following:
a. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
b. Locate the Microsoft Exchange Information Store name in the list of services.
c. Verify that the status of the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is Started.
If the Information Store service has not started, try to start it. If the Information Store service cannot start, see the More Information section.
2.Verify that the mailbox store that contains the System Attendant mailbox has mounted. To verify that the mailbox store has mounted, do the following:
a. Start Exchange System Manager.
b. Expand Administrative Groups, expand Servers, expand StorageGroupName.
c. Right-click Mailbox Store and then notice if Dismount Store is in the list of options. Do not click Dismount Store. If Dismount Store is in the list of items, the mailbox store has mounted.
d. If Dismount Store is not in the list of options, try to start the mailbox store. To do this, click Mount Store.
e. When you receive the message The store was successfully mounted. Click OK.
If the information store has started and the mailbox store has mounted successfully, Mailbox Manager can run.

If the mailbox store has not mounted successfully, see the More Information section.
