Mail appears to be missing when a new OWA session displays the view of the folder that was used last in an earlier session

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When users log on to their mailbox by using Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA), users see the contents of the most recent folder that they used in their previous OWA session. This may cause confusion for some users if the last folder that they used was the Unread Messages folder. During subsequent logons, users may believe that they are missing some of their e-mail.

Workaround

By design, Outlook Web Access renders the view of the last folder that was used. You can customize the log off process to render the view of the Inbox folder so that the Inbox folder view appears every time the user logs on to a server that is running Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server by using OWA. This customized view of the OWA content pane then appears for all sessions regardless of the last folder that the user selected during an earlier OWA session.
