View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When two or more disks fail in a hardware RAID set on a clustered server, the physical disk resource may still appear online. When you open My Computer to view the physical drive, you can view the root of the drive by using cached information. When you try to view subfolders, write to files, or open any files on the disk, you receive the following error message:
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error
Additionally, event ID 26, event ID 50, and event ID 11 messages are logged in the System event log. You may also see entries similar to the following in the cluster log:
00000090.00000778::2003/02/05-13:58:48.359
WARN Physical Disk <Disk S: T:>: Offline, Locking volume failed, error 5.

00000134.000004c8::2003/02/05-14:11:55.509
ERR Physical Disk <Disk S: T:>: [DiskArb] Failed to read (sector 12), error 1117.
