Symptoms

If you switch the Tablet PC's screen orientation from landscape to portrait when you run a Microsoft PowerPoint slide show, the slide show may also change its orientation from landscape to portrait. The change in screen orientation causes the slides of the presentation to appear sideways on the screen with substantial black space on either side of the slide.

Resolution

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To resolve this problem, you must create a registry key.

PowerPoint 2003

Follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\PowerPoint\Options
  3. On the Edit menu, point to
    New, and then click DWORD.
  4. Type SlideShowNoForceLandscape, and then press ENTER.
  5. On the Edit menu, click
    Modify.
  6. Type 0, and then click OK.

PowerPoint 2007

Follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\PowerPoint\Options
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD.
  4. Type SlideShowNoForceLandscape, and then press ENTER.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  6. Type 0, and then click OK.

The value 0 forces PowerPoint to always use the landscape orientation for its slide shows. The value 1 see comment the slide show orientation to change with the Tablet PC's screen orientation.
