The Exchange public folder store database file grows unexpectedly large

Symptoms

When Exchange 2000 Server client computers browse an Exchange public folder store, the database file (.edb) may grow unexpectedly large on the server, and offline defragmentation does not decrease the size of the database file.

Cause

This problem occurs because the overflow table entry numbers are not deleted from an Exchange 2000 Server .edb database file.
