This article describes how to rehome a public folder from an Exchange 5.5 computer to an Exchange 2000 computer that is in a different site in a mixed mode organization.
Add a Public Folder Replica to the Target Site
Add a replica of the public folder that you want to rehome to an Exchange 5.5 computer in the site where your Exchange 2000 computer is located. To do so, follow these steps:
1. | Start Microsoft Exchange Administrator. To do this, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click Microsoft Exchange Administrator. |
2. | Expand Folders, expand Public Folders, and then click the public folder that you want to rehome. |
3. | On the File menu, click Properties. |
4. | Click the Replicas tab, and then click the site where you want to create the replica in the Site list. |
5. | Click the Exchange 5.5 computer that is in the target site where you want to create the replica, and then click Add. |
6. | Click the Replication Schedule tab, and then click the replication schedule that you want to use. For example, to create the replica immediately, click Always. |
7. | Click Apply, and then click OK. |
Remove the Public Folder Replica from the Source Site
Rehome the public folder to the Exchange 5.5 computer that is in the target site, and then remove the replica from the original Exchange 5.5 computer. To do so, follow these steps:
1. | On the Exchange 5.5 computer that is in the source site, start Microsoft Exchange Administrator. |
2. | Expand Folders, expand Public Folders, and then click the public folder that you want to rehome. |
3. | On the File menu, click Properties. |
4. | Click to clear the Limit administrative access to home site check box. |
5. | Click the Advanced tab, and then click the target server (the server where you created the replica) in the Home server list. |
6. | Click Apply, and then click OK. |
7. | On the Exchange 5.5 computer that is in the target site, start Microsoft Exchange Administrator. |
8. | Expand Folders, expand Public Folders, and then click the public folder that you want to remove. |
9. | On the File menu, click Properties. |
10. | Click the Replicas tab. |
11. | Under Replicate folders to, click the Exchange 5.5 computer that is in the source site, and then click Remove. |
12. | Click Apply, and then click OK. |
Add a Public Folder Replica to the Exchange 2000 Computer
After you have rehomed the public folder to an Exchange 5.5 computer that is in the target site, create a replica on the Exchange 2000 computer. To do so, follow these steps:
1. | On the Exchange 5.5 computer that is in the target site, start Microsoft Exchange Administrator, and then connect to the Exchange 5.5 computer that contains the public folder you want to rehome. |
2. | Expand Folders, expand Public Folders, and then click the public folder that you want to rehome. |
3. | On the File menu, click Properties. |
4. | Click the Replicas tab, click the Exchange 2000 computer that is in the Servers list, and then click Add. |
5. | Click the Replication Schedule tab, and then configure the replication schedule that you want. For example, to replicate changes immediately, click Always. |
6. | Click Apply, and then click OK. |
7. | Give public folder replication sufficient time to complete successfully. |
Remove the Public Folder Replica from the Exchange 5.5 Computer
After all the content in the public folder has fully replicated to the Exchange 2000 computer, remove the replica from the Exchange 5.5 computer. You may experience data loss if the public folder content does not fully replicate to Exchange 2000 before the replica is removed from Exchange 5.5. To remove the replica of the public folder from Exchange 5.5, follow these steps:
1. | On the Exchange 5.5 computer that is in the target site, start Microsoft Exchange Administrator, and then connect to the Exchange 5.5 computer that contains the public folder that you want to remove. |
2. | Expand Folders, expand Public Folders, and then click the public folder that you want to remove. |
3. | On the File menu, click Properties. |
4. | Click the Replicas tab, click the Exchange 5.5 computer that is in the Replicate folders to list, and then click Remove. |
5. | Click Apply, and then click OK on the message that states that you have changed the home server for this public folder. |
6. | Click OK. |
