Passport Network Map Refresh Does Not Work on Remote Servers

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

If you point the Msppcnfg.exe Passport configuration utility at a remote server (where Windows Server 2003 is the remote server), the Network Map Refresh fails.

Cause

In the past, the Network Map Refresh worked on computers with the Passport SDK installed. The Network Map Refresh worked because the SDK created an IIS virtual directory (Passporttest) that displayed an ASP page. That ASP page could then be used to update the Network Map.

However, if you use Msppcnfg.exe to configure a remote computer when the Refresh Network Map check box is selected, or if you change the Passport Environment by using the Passport Manager Administration Utility, and then you click Commit Changes, an instantiation of Microsoft Internet Explorer runs. You then typically see the following error message in Internet Explorer:
Page Not found
If your computer has Microsoft Windows 2000 with the Passport SDK installed and then you upgrade to Windows Server 2003, the virtual directory may exist. This may cause the refresh of the Network Map to succeed.

Resolution

You can use the Msppcnfg.exe to configure a remote computer in either of the following ways:
  • Use the /m option when you run the utility from the command line.
  • On the Select Server menu, click Computer to select a computer that is different from the local computer.
