Symptoms

When affected users try tosave a new appointment or respond to a meeting request in Outlook Web Access, they receive an error "This operation can't be performed" and the new item is not saved to the user's calendar. However, the affected user is able to perform the same calendaring functions successfullyusing an Outlook MAPI client. When an affected user tries to dismiss or snooze a reminder in Outlook Web Access, he/she maysee the error "One or more of your reminders could not be snoozed or dismissed".

Additionally, the following events may be logged in the Application log of the Exchange Mailbox server that contains the user's mailbox:

Cause

This problem maybe caused by one or more of the following conditions:

-MissingSystemAttendantDNregistry key as mentioned in KB article 3104440 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310440)
- Malformed legacyExchangeDN attribute on the affected user object

Resolution

If the cause of the problem is a malformed legacyExchangeDN attribute, this can be verified and rectified as follows:

  1. On a machine that has the Windows Support Tools installed, click Start, Run and typeadsiedit.msc and click OK.
  2. IntheADSIEDIT utility, expand Domains, dc=domain,dc=com andexpand the container OU of the affected user.
  3. Right click on the user (CN=Full name) of the user and choose Properties.
  4. In the Attributes list, scroll down andselect the legacyExchangeDN attribute.
  5. Click the Edit button.
  6. Check if the value is of the form: /o=OrganizationName/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=username and that it is not malformed. Most commonly, it maybe malformed to read /o=OrganizationName/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipientsusername with a missing '/cn=' after '/cn=Recipients'.
  7. Correct the value, click OK twice and close ADSIEDIT.

More information

When you change the legacyExchangeDN attribute for a user, you should rebuild the Global Address List. Emails sent by other users in the organization may not deliver to the affected user after fixing the legacyExchangeDN attribute if the sendertypes the name of the affected recipient fromthe Outlook"cache"(AutoComplete). However, if the sender selects the affected user from the GAL, the e-mail message is delivered.

A workaround for this would be to add the old (incorrect) valueof the legacyExchangeDN as a value in the proxyAddresses attribute for the affected user to ensure e-mail delivery even from cached incorrect entries in Outlook.
