How to remove the additional domain * in Internet Message Formats in Exchange System Manager

Summary

By default Exchange System Manager accepts another domain entry with a wildcard *, but after you create this duplicated entry you can not remove it from Exchange System Manager.

Symptoms

When you add a duplicate entry in Internet Message Formats with the domain value equal * you cannot delete it using Exchange System Manager because the Delete option does not appear.

Resolution

To remove this additional entry in Internet Message Formats you need to use Adsiedit.msc tool which is available in Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 Support Tools. Note You can directly edit Active Directory in both Ldp.exe and Adsiedit.msc. Only experienced administrators should use these tools to edit Active Directory. Both tools are available after you install the Support tools from your original Windows installation media.

1. Click Start, click Run, type Adsiedit.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Expand Configuration, expand CN=Configuration, expand CN=Services, expand CN=Microsoft Exchange, expand CN=<Your organization>, expand CN=Global Settings and then click on Internet Message Formats
3. On the right frame will appear all entries that you have, then right-click in the wrong entry and click Delete and�confirm the option with clicking in Yes.
