Surface Hub and SRSv2 room devices cannot view PowerPoint presentations shared after TLS 1.0/1.1 protocols are disabled

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • Your organization disabled TLS 1.1 and 1.0 by following Part 1 and Part 2 of the blog series for disabling these protocols in Skype for Business Server.
  • Microsoft Skype for Business Server 2015 is running the May 2019 (6.0.9319.548) update or a later update, or Microsoft Skype for Business Server 2019 is running the July 2019 (7.0.2046.123) update or a later update.
  • Skype Room System (also known as SRSv2 or Microsoft Teams Room) devices are running 4.0.64.0 or a later version.
  • Surface Hub devices are running KB4499162 (OS build 15063.1835) or a later build.
  • You try to view a PowerPoint presentation.

In this scenario, the Surface Hub and SRSv2 room devices cannot view PowerPoint presentation, and you receive the following error message:

Cause

This issue occurs because both the SRSv2 and Surface Hub devices send a Client Hello that uses the TLS 1.0 protocol, and the Front End Server that's hosting the Web Conferencing Service for the conference has TLS 1.0 disabled.

Workaround

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.
 

Method 1

Re-enable TLS 1.1 and 1.0 in the Skype for Business environment by rolling back changes in the registry, as described in Part 2 of the blog series.
 

Method 2

Have the presenter share the PowerPoint presentation by using Application Sharing.

Note Some functionality for sharing the prersentation through Office Online Server may not be available when you share by using Application Sharing.
