A node cannot be added to a multidomain cluster if it is a member of the domains

Symptoms

In a multidomain cluster environment, you cannot add a node to the cluster if the node is a member of the domains. Additionally, you receive the following error messages.

In Windows PowerShell:


In Failover Cluster Manager (FCM):

4521205

Because of this issue, you cannot re-add a removed node.

Cause

This issue occurs because the standard procedure to add a node to an existing cluster is to use Active Directory for authentication.

Resolution

To fix this issue, follow these steps:

  • Remove (unjoin) the node from domain.
  • Add the node to the cluster.
  • Rejoin the node to the domain.
