What to do if the only admin for your MPN program has left the company in Partner Center?

View products that this article applies to.

Microsoft Partner Center is your one-stop location for managing your end-to-end relationship with Microsoft. It has tools and resources to help you transact and grow your business, including membership options, customer referrals, and the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program.

The account you have on Partner Center when you enroll/transition is your work email (e.g. tom@contoso.com) plus your business information. We need to link your company's work account to your Partner Center account, so your account users can sign in to Partner Center with their work account usernames and passwords.

Global admins and the Partner Center account

You determine the types of access your users have in Partner Center by the roles and permissions you give them. Roles are related to the program(s) your business is involved in. For example, if your business is a Microsoft Partner Network (MPN) business, you will not only have the standard Azure AD tenant management roles, such as global admin, but will need roles specific to the MPN program. Each program has roles specific to it.

What to do if the only admin for your MPN program has left the company in Partner Center?

Depending on the scenario you find yourself in, please follow the steps outlined accordingly:

Scenario 1: MPN Partner Admin/Account Admin has left the company but there are still Global Admins in the account

Scenario 2: MPN Partner Admin/Account Admin has left the company and there are no Global admins in the account

Scenario 3: MPN Partner Admin/Account Admin/Global admin has left the company and there are no other users that can access the company’s Azure Active directory – complete loss of access

Scenario 1: MPN Partner Admin/Account Admin has left the company but there are still Global Admins in the account

To be assigned with a specific MPN Partner admin/Account Admin role in the MPN Program please access your Partner Center account with your work account (e.g. tom@contoso.com)  and go to the User Management page. Here, you have the option to filter and see who are the Global Admins of your company that can help you gain the MPN specific role of interest.

1

After identifying the Global Admins in your company, reach out to them via e-mail and ask them to provide you with the necessary roles to continue managing the company’s MPN program.

Scenario 2: MPN Partner Admin/Account Admin has left the company and there are no Global admins in the account

If you go to the User Management page and upon filtering, it is determined that there is no Global Admin in your company that can help you gain the MPN specific role of interest, then please follow the bellow steps:

1.) Go to portal.azure.com, sign in with your work account (e.g. tom@contoso.com) and select the Help + Support option in the left menu nav bar.

2

2.) In the next page, select New Support request option and Technical Issue type in the dropdown menu, insert any more needed details that the page might ask for and click on Next: Solutions

3

If the Technical Issues type is not available to you in the dropdown menu, then please chose whatever option is available

3.) After reviewing the recommended Solutions in the next page, please click Next: Details and complete the necessary fields

4

4.) In the last page, Review and Create the support request

5

Scenario 3: MPN Partner Admin/Account Admin/Global admin has left the company and there are no other users that can access the company’s Azure Active directory – complete loss of access

Follow the Administrator Takeover steps to take over an unmanaged directory as administrator in Azure Active Directory.

Not sure if your company already has a work account?

If you’re not sure whether your company has a work account, follow these steps to check.

  1. Sign in to the Azure admin portal at https://ms.portal.azure.com
  2. Select Azure Active Directory from the menu and then select Domain Names.
  3. If you already have a work account, your domain name will be listed.

Note that if you have an active subscription to Microsoft Azure or Office 365, you already have a work account and your sign in credentials should be the same as the ones used to access MS Cloud Services.
