Can't open .lnk or .url file after enabling the Files On Demand feature in OneDrive

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Assume that you enabled the Files On Demand feature in Microsoft OneDrive for Business. If you try to open an .lnk or .url file that's marked by OneDrive as "Free up space" (and the file is also an "online-only" file), the file won't open in a web browser. Instead the file will open a print dialog box. If the file is marked as "Always keep on this device," the file opens in the browser as expected.
