Hide the retention policy UI in Outlook 2016

After upgrading to Exchange Server 2016, Outlook 2016 will display retention policies that are assigned to the mailbox. A retention policy that you are using will be displayed in the following areas in Outlook 2016:

  • The Retention Policy bar that's related to the retention policy in the email message
  • The Info bar that's related to the retention policy in the email message InfoBar
  • The Policy tab in the Properties dialog for folders
  • The Assign Policy button in the ribbon

To hide the retention policy User Interface (UI) in Outlook 2016, you can set the SuppressRetentionPolicyUI registry key. Check the following steps:

  1. Exit all Microsoft Office applications.
  2. Start Registry Editor by using the appropriate method for your version of Windows:
     
    • In Windows 10, go to Start, enter regedit in the Search box, and then select regedit.exe in the search results.
    • In Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, move your mouse to the upper-right corner, select Search, enter regedit in the search text box, and then select regedit.exe in the search results.
    • In Windows 7, select Start, enter regedit in the Start Search box, and then select regedit.exe in the search results.
  3. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:


    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\

  4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then select DWORD Value.
  5. Enter SuppressRetentionPolicyUI, and then press Enter.
  6. In the Details pane, press and hold (or right-click) SuppressRetentionPolicyUI, and then select Modify.
  7. In the Value data box, enter 1, and then select OK.

    Note The default value of the registry key is 0. If you set the value to 1, all UI that are related to the retention policy will be hidden.

  8. Exit Registry Editor.
