Even though customers who cancel their MSN Premium and Dial-up subscriptions miss out on great services like email with no ads, anti-virus, spyware, and phishing monitors, they can still keep their MSN email account and emails.
When an MSN subscription is canceled, the associated MSN email account is converted to a free Outlook email account under the same name and can be accessed through https://outlook.com instead of the MSN Butterfly. However, any email messages stored locally will be lost if not backed up before canceling the subscription.
How to back up MSN email messages
In order to keep all of the email messages stored locally on a device they need to be moved online prior to canceling a MSN subscription. See MSN Explorer: How to backup or restore email.
