Symptom

When you do a "bare-metal restore" (BMR) to a partition that is configured as a GUID partition table (GPT) disk in Windows Server 2016, the operation fails. Additionally, you receive error 0x80042412 (VSS_E_ASRERROR_RDISK_FOR_SYSTEM_DISK_NOT_FOUND).

Cause

At the beginning of the BMR restore, Windows enumerates the appropriate disk as the restore destination and generates the path to be used internally for processing. However, this path generation processing fails because of the configuration of the target GPT partition.
