July 2018 cumulative update 5.0.8308.1001 for Lync Server 2013, Web Components Server

To install the cumulative update for Lync Server 2013 web components server, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Cumulative Server Update Installer

The Cumulative Server Update Installer applies all updates for the appropriate server role in one operation. To use the Cumulative Server Update Installer, follow these steps.

1. Download the Cumulative Server Update Installer.
2. Run the Cumulative Server Update Installer by using the UI or a command prompt.
   
   Note When you click Install Updates, the UI indicates which updates are installed.
   
   To run the installer, run the following command:
   
   

   LyncServerUpdateInstaller.exe 

   Note The following bullet points describe parameters that you can use with the LyncServerUpdateInstaller.exe command:
    
   • The /silentmode option applies all applicable updates in the background.
   • The /silentmode /forcereboot options together apply all applicable updates in the background. Additionally, these switches automatically restart the server at the end of the installation process, if it's necessary.
   • The /extractall option extracts the updates from the installer, and then saves the updates in a subfolder that's named "Extracted" in the folder from which you ran the command.

Method 2: Microsoft Update

The update is also available from the Microsoft Update website.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for installing this cumulative update.

Registry information

To use one of the updates in this package, you don't have to make any changes to the registry.

Update replacement information

This cumulative update replaces the July 2017 cumulative update 5.0.8308.992 for Lync Server 2013 web components server.

Restart requirement

You may have to restart the computer after you apply this cumulative update.

Update package installation information

To install this cumulative update package, install the WebComponents.msp package on computers that have one of the following server roles:

• Lync Server 2013 - Standard Edition Server
• Lync Server 2013 - Enterprise Edition - Front End Server
• Lync Server 2013 - Director Server

Removal information

To remove this cumulative update package, use the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel.

If you are prompted for source files when you install the update, insert the source CD or provide the path of the location of the source files.

After you uninstall this cumulative update package, Internet Information Services (IIS) may stop running. This occurs because the ApplicationHost.config file is changed when you uninstall this cumulative update package.

To fix this issue, follow these steps:

1. Delete the duplicate entries in the two sections after the <location path="Lync Server Internal Web Site" overrideMode="Allow"> and <location path="Lync Server External Web Site" overrideMode="Allow"> tags. After you do this, the two sections should resemble the following:

2. Delete the following entries at the end of the ApplicationHost.config file:
    
   • <location path="Lync Server Internal Web Site" overrideMode="Allow"/>
   • <location path="Lync Server External Web Site" overrideMode="Allow"/>
3. Save the ApplicationHost.config file, and then restart IIS.
