Underline character is incorrectly displayed in "Driver File Details" in Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario in Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016:

  • You open the Driver File Details dialog box of the Device Manager window to view the name in the Provider field.
  • The string resources of the driver include an ampersand (&) in the Provider name.

In this scenario, the Provider name is not displayed correctly. Instead of the ampersand, you see an underline character (_).

Cause

This problem occurs because the dialog resource of the Driver File Details dialog box does not use the SS_NOPREFIX window style. If the window style is not specified, Windows recognizes the ampersand as an access key for a menu or menu command.
