Cause

This is by design. Windows Server 2016 Essentials and Windows Storage Server 2016 have system requirements of no more than two processor sockets.

Resolution

To work around this issue, install Windows Server 2016 Standard or Windows Server 2016 Datacenter.

  • After the installation, the Windows Server Essentials Experience Role can be installed. The Windows Server Essentials Experience Role does not have the processor count limit.
  • After the Storage Services are deployed, Windows Server Standard and Windows Server Datacenter do not have the same processor limits.
