Windows 10 Version 1703 with update 4034674 crashes when sleeping, hibernating, or shutting down

Symptom

Assume that you install update KB 4034674 on a Windows 10 Version 1703-based computer that uses USB-C connector. When you try to sleep, hibernate, or shut down the computer, the computer crashes.

Cause

This issue is caused by a bad interaction between the USB-C firmware that is built into the device and the USB-C driver that is provided by Windows.

Workaround

To work around this issue in Windows 10 Version 1703, follow these steps:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand the devices in the Universal Serial Bus controllers category.
  3. Find the UCSI USB Connector Manager device.
  4. Right-click the device, and then click Disable device.
