Symptoms

When deploying Retail Store Scale Unit (RRSU) on a domain controller machine, errors may be seen related to user creation or user login creation on the channel database.

Resolution

The deployment scripts for RSSU were updated to identify domain controller machines and correctly create users and user logins on the domain controller active directory.

Domain controllers don't use a local account database (security accounts manager [SAM]). This means that all users created during the RSSU deployment process will be created on the domain. Thus, to install RSSU on a domain controller, it is required that the user that runs the installers have the necessary permissions to create users on the domain.

The ActiveDirectory module for powershell is expected to be installed before hand when installing RSSU on a domain controller. For more details on how to install the ActiveDirectory powershell module, please see https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd378937(v=ws.10).aspx .
