Control Cortana notifications

Cortana delivers personal notifications and helpful suggestions on all your devices. Customize them in Cortana’s Notebook and action center to fit your interests.

Get the notifications you want

Go to Cortana's Notebook and select the interests that are relevant to you. 

Here are some things Cortana can do for you:

  • Weather: Keep you up to date on the weather where you are now, or somewhere far away.
  • Travel: Track flight itineraries from your email, and give you your flight status and info about your destination.
  • Getting around: Show you how traffic is looking on your normal routes, and tell you when you're going to need extra time.
  • News: Get you the latest on whatever topic you choose.
  • Sports: Track your favorite sports and teams.
  • Eat & drink: Get personalized restaurant recommendations.
  • Movies & TV: Get showtimes for movies that fit your interests.
  • Finance: Track gains and losses for stocks on your watchlist.

Cancel personal notifications at any time by selecting an interest and switching the notification toggle to Off.

Get notifications across your devices

To sync your devices, open Cortana on your PC, go to Settings , and then turn on Send notifications and information between devices. After a few minutes, you should receive a notification on your PC asking you to confirm that your phone is a trusted device. Once it's trusted, you'll start seeing notifications on both devices. 

In action center, you'll see your top quick actions at the bottom. Select Expand to see all available. To rearrange them and customize your top quick actions, go to Settings > System > Notifications & actions

Change notification settings

Change any of the following settings at any time in Settings > System > Notifications & actions.

  • Turn notifications, banners, and sounds on or off for some or all notification senders.
  • Choose whether to see notifications on the lock screen.
  • Choose whether to see notifications when you're duplicating your screen.
  • Choose the quick actions you'll see in action center.
  • Turn tips, tricks, and suggestions about Windows on or off.

For app-specific settings, select the app under Get notifications from these senders.

Helpful tips from Cortana

From time to time, Cortana will pipe up with helpful thoughts, suggestions, and notifications in the search box on the taskbar. You can turn these messages off in Cortana's settings  under Taskbar tidbits
