Unattend.xml setting causes push-button reset failure in Windows 10 Version 1607

Symptom

You run push-button reset (PBR) in Windows 10 Version 1607 when the unattend.xml file includes the following setting:

<VisualEffects>
<FontSmoothing>ClearType</FontSmoothing>
</VisualEffects>

In this scenario, PBR fails, and the computer infinitely restarts.

Cause

This issue occurs because the unattend setting (Shell setup) process failed to configure the FontSmoothing registry key.

Resolution

To avoid this issue, remove the FontSmoothing setting from the unattend.xml file before you run PBR.

If the issue already occurs, retry PBR after removing the setting.
