FIX: "The Microsoft Recovery Services Agent cannot connect to the OBEngine service" when you add the MARS Agent add-in

Introduction

This article describes the symptoms and resolution of an issue you may experience in Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent (MARS) versions 2.0.9070.0 and 2.0.9071.0. If you use either of these versions, we strongly recommend that you install this upgrade.

Symptoms

When you start or open the Agent Management console, and then you try to add the MARS Agent snap-in, you receive the following error message:

The Microsoft Recovery Services Agent cannot connect to the OBEngine service. Verify that the OBEngine service is present in the Services Control Panel and that port 6049 is available.

Please close the Microsoft Azure Backup snap-in and restart it.

Resolution

To fix this issue, install the MARS Agent version 2.0.9072.0 from the Microsoft Download Center.

 Download the Azure Recovery Services agent update package now.

Prerequisites

If you use System Center 2016 Data Protection Manager, you must have Update Rollup 1 for System Center 2016 Data Protection Manager or a later version installed to apply this update.

If you use System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager, you must have Update Rollup 11 for System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager or a later version installed to apply this update.

Restart information

If you use Windows Server 2008 (SP2 or R2 SP1, any edition), you must restart your computer after you apply this update. If you have the MARS Agent installed on other Windows Server versions, you do not have to restart the computer after you apply this update.

Replacement information

This update replaces the previously released update 4015082.
