Office files that are saved to a network drive take an unexpectedly long time to save in Word, Excel, Powerpoint 2002 and 2003


Symptoms

When you are using one of the following programs to save a file to a network location, the save operation may take an unexpectedly long time to complete:
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft PowerPoint

Cause

This behavior may occur if Symantec "Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition version 7.x" is installed on your computer. The File System Realtime Protection feature of this program can cause the performance slow down when you save files.
