When you install Windows, Setup automatically adds the
/pae switch to your Boot.ini file when it detects more then 4
gigabytes of memory. Therefore, the symptoms described in this article may
occur only under the following circumstances:
- After you install your operating system, you add memory so
that your total installed memory exceeds 4 gigabytes.
- You manually edit your Boot.ini file to remove the /pae switch.
