Error Message When You Try to Resume After Hibernating

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:

• Your computer has more than 4 gigabytes of RAM.
• Your Boot.ini file does not contain the /pae switch

To resolve this problem, add the /pae switch to your Boot.ini file. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type X:\boot.ini, where X is the drive letter of the location of the boot files.
3. Type /pae at the end of the line that corresponds to your operating system.
4. Save the file, and then restart the computer.

When you install Windows, Setup automatically adds the /pae switch to your Boot.ini file when it detects more then 4 gigabytes of memory. Therefore, the symptoms described in this article may occur only under the following circumstances:

• After you install your operating system, you add memory so that your total installed memory exceeds 4 gigabytes.
• You manually edit your Boot.ini file to remove the /pae switch.
