Excel 2000: Excel Quits When GetPivotData Function Is in Second Workbook

If you create a GetPivotData function in Microsoft Excel 2000, Excel may quit unexpectedly. This problem occurs if:

• The PivotTable is in one workbook, and the GetPivotData function is in another workbook.
• The PivotTable contains a date field.

To compare the date field values against the string that is used in the GetPivotData function, Excel must format the date field according to the correct format string that is applied to that field. The function that fetches the format string structure has an argument that says which book it should look in. This argument in this case is NULL, which Excel interprets as being the current book. The current book, however, is the book that the formula is on. This causes the problem.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time.
