HOW TO: Change Connection Strings to Commerce Databases

Summary

When a Microsoft SQL Server user password is changed or you must change the Commerce Server connection to point to a different database server, you must change the Commerce Server database connection strings. This step-by-step article describes how to change the connection strings.

Change Site Resource Database Connection Strings

Change the Campaign Resource Connection String

  1. Open Commerce Server Manager, and then expand Commerce Sites.
  2. Expand the site that you want to change.
  3. Expand Site Resources.
  4. Right-click Campaigns, and then click Properties.
  5. In the Campaign Properties dialog box, click the Connection Strings tab, and then click Modify. This opens the Data Link Properties dialog box and shows the database connection settings.
  6. Verify and change the connection settings.
  7. Click Apply, and then click OK to save the changes.
  8. In the Campaign Properties dialog box, click OK.

Change the Product Catalog Resource Connection String

  1. Open Commerce Server Manager, and then expand Commerce Sites.
  2. Expand the site that you want to change.
  3. Expand Site Resources.
  4. Right-click Product Catalog, and then click Properties.
  5. In the Product Catalog Properties dialog box, click the Connection Strings tab, and then click Modify. This opens the Data Link Properties dialog box and shows the database connection settings.
  6. Verify and change the connection settings.
  7. Click Apply, and then click OK to save the changes.
  8. In the Product Catalog Properties dialog box, click OK.

Change the Transaction Config Database Connection String

  1. Open Commerce Server Manager, and then expand Commerce Sites.
  2. Expand the site that you want to change.
  3. Expand Site Resources.
  4. Right-click Transaction Config, and then click Properties.
  5. In the Transaction Config Properties dialog box, click the Connection Strings tab, and then click Modify. This opens the Data Link Properties dialog box and shows the database connection settings.
  6. Verify and change the connection settings.
  7. Click Apply, and then click OK to save the changes.
  8. In the Transaction Config Properties dialog box, click OK.

Change the Transaction Database Connection String

  1. Open Commerce Server Manager, and then expand Commerce Sites.
  2. Expand the site that you want to change.
  3. Expand Site Resources.
  4. Right-click Transactions, and then click Properties.
  5. In the Transactions Properties dialog box, click the Connection Strings tab, and then click Modify. This opens the Data Link Properties dialog box and shows the database connection settings.
  6. Verify and change the connection settings.
  7. Click Apply, and then click OK to save the changes.
  8. Click OK in the Transactions Properties dialog box.

Change Global Resource Connection Strings

Change the Direct Mail Connection String

  1. Open Commerce Server Manager, and then expand Global Resources.
  2. Right-click Direct Mail, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Connection Strings tab, and then click Modify. This opens the Data Link Properties dialog box and shows the database connection settings.
  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  5. In the Direct Mail Properties dialog box, click OK to save the changes.

Change the Predictor Connection String

  1. Open Commerce Server Manager, and then expand Global Resources.
  2. Right-click Predictor, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Connection Strings tab, and then click Modify. This opens the Data Link Properties dialog box and shows the database connection settings.
  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  5. Click OK in the Predictor Properties dialog box to save the changes.

Change the Data Warehouse Connection String

  1. Open Commerce Server Manager, and then expand Global Resources.
  2. Right-click Data Warehouse.
  3. Change the SQL connection settings. Note that you can only change the user ID and password through this interface. To change other settings such as the database or server name, you must edit the data in the ResourceProps table in the MSCS_Admin database. The s_Value column contains the connection string for each resource. Make sure that you back up the MSCS_Admin database before you make any changes directly.

Change the Profile Resource Connection String

  1. Open Commerce Server Manager, and then expand Global Resources.
  2. Expand Profiles, and then expand Profile Catalog.
  3. Locate Data Sources, and then right-click ProfileService_SQLSource.
  4. In the ProfileService_SQLSource dialog box, click the Partition tab.
  5. Click to select the connection source, and then click Edit to make changes.
