FIX: Issues with action recording using Microsoft Test Manager and Coded UI tests using Visual Studio

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

This fix addresses two issues, the symptoms for which are described below:

1. When you run coded UI tests using Microsoft Visual Studio Enterprise 2015 Update 3, you cannot run cross-browser tests on Google Chrome browser. You may see different symptoms depending on the version of Chrome being used. In most cases, Chrome browser won't start. If the browser starts, it won't navigate to the desired page.

2. When creating action recording for test cases using Microsoft Test Manager 2015 Update 3 or when recording coded UI tests using Visual Studio Enterprise 2015 Update 3, you may observe delays in actions being recorded. In some cases, Microsoft Test Manager or Visual Studio may become unresponsive.

Cause

1. Cross-browser tests depend on the ChromeDriver for Selenium. Latest version of Google Chrome browser no longer works with ChromeDriver whose version is less than 2.10. ChromeDriver whose version is higher than 2.10 communicates differently than previous ones. This causes coded UI tests to fail.

2. Mechanism used to identify control properties when recording tests is inefficient, leading to perceivable delays and performance issues.
