Event ID 9175 Error Message Is Logged When the Offline Address List Is Generated

In an Exchange Server 5.5, Exchange 2000 Server, and Exchange Server 2003 mixed-mode environment, the offline address list may not be generated on the Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 server, and the following error message may be logged in the Application event log on the Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 server:

This issue may occur if:

• You set the Default Public Store attribute on an Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 server to point to an Exchange 5.5 server public store in another domain. -and-
  
  
• The Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 server is listed as the Offline Address List Server for this site.

In Exchange Server 5.5, the Exchange Server service account is used to validate other servers in the site and perform system functions. In Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003, the local system account is used instead.

In the situation that this article describes, the offline address list generation process in Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 tries to pass the local system account to gain access to the Exchange Server 5.5 public folder server. The "You do not have permission to log on" error message is logged. This error message indicates that the Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 local system account does not have permission on the site object for the site that the Exchange Server 5.5 computer is in.

The 8004011d-0519-0000000 error code is equivalent to the "You do not have permission to log on" error message.

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Important If you want to keep the Exchange Server 5.5 computer as the default public folder store to maintain coexistence with Exchange Server 5.5 or for any other reason, use the second method.

To resolve this issue:

• Set the default public store value to point to the Exchange 2000 server:
  1. Start Exchange System Manager.
  2. Right-click the Private Information Store object for the mailbox server, and then click Properties to open the Private Information Store properties.
  3. Click the General tab, and then make sure that the Default public store attribute is pointing to itself as the default public store.
  After you set the default public store value to point to the Exchange 2000 or the Exchange 2003 server, the offline address list is generated successfully without generating any error messages. The Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 server is designated as the default public folder store. -or-
  
  
• Add the Exchange Domain Servers group from the Exchange 2000 or the Exchange 2003 domain to the site object in the Exchange Server 5.5 Exchange Server Administrator program, and then grant the group Service Account permissions on the site object:
  1. Start the Exchange Server 5.5 Exchange Server Administrator program.
  2. Click the Site object, and then click Properties on the File menu.
  3. Click the Permissions tab, and then click Add.
  4. Click the List names from list, and then click the Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 domain.
  5. Add the Exchange Domain Servers group, and then click OK.
  6. Make sure that the Exchange Domain Servers group is listed in the Windows NT Accounts with permissions list with Service account Administrator permissions, and then click OK.
  After you add the Exchange Domain Servers group from the Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 domain to the site object in the Exchange Server 5.5 Exchange Server Administrator program, and then grant the group Service Account permissions on the site object, the offline address list is generated successfully without generating any error messages. The Exchange Server 5.5 computer is designated as the default public folder store.
