Update Rollup 1 for System Center 2016 Service Management Automation

Introduction

The Microsoft System Center 2016 Service Management Automation General Availability Update Rollup is available. This update rollup package contains the following security enhancement to Service Management Automation:

  • The algorithm to encrypt SMA secrets is changed from Rijndael to AES compliant Rijndael

We recommend that you apply this update rollup as part of your regular maintenance routine.

How to obtain and install Update Rollup 1 for System Center 2016 Service Management Automation

Update packages for Service Management Automation are available from Microsoft Update or by manual download.

Important Update Rollup 1 for System Center 2016 Service Management Automation is included in a security update. We do not recommend that you remove any security update. However, Update Rollup 1 may be removed by using the Programs and Updates feature in Control Panel. When you do this, the Service Management Automation binaries will roll-back to their previous state, but the database will not roll back. We recommend that you back up your Service Management Automation database before you apply this update rollup. 
Microsoft Update
To obtain and install an update package from Microsoft Update, follow these steps on a computer that has a Service Management Automation component installed:

  1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Windows Update.
  3. In the Windows Update window, click Check Online for updates from Microsoft Update.
  4. Click Important updates are available.
  5. Select the update rollup package, and then click OK.
  6. Click Install updates to install the update package.

If your computer is running Windows Server 2016 or later, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Settings.
  2. In Settings, click Updates & Security.
  3. On the Windows Update tab, click Check Online for updates from Microsoft Update.
  4. Click Important updates are available.
  5. Select the update rollup package, and then click OK.
  6. Click Install updates to install the update package.

Installation instructions
To apply this update, follow these steps:

  1. Download the .cab files from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
  2. Extract the .cab file to get the .msp files, and then apply the appropriate .msp files on each computer.

    Note The .msp files are included in the update rollup package. Apply all .msp files that relate to a specific computer. Apply one .msp file for each specific role that the server holds for SMA (for example, apply KB3190604_WebServiceInstaller_x64.msp to the server that has the web service role).
