"You have been removed from this conversation" error when you join a meeting created through Meet Now in Lync 2013

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Lync (Skype for Business) account, and a conference policy that only allows data sharing is set for your account.
  • Both the AllowNonEnterpriseVoiceUsersToDialOut and AllowAnonymousUsersToDialOut parameters in the conference policy settings are set to False.
  • A meeting organizer starts a meeting in Microsoft Lync 2013 (Microsoft Skype for Business) by selecting the Meet Now option but doesn't add audio.
In this scenario, you can't join the meeting, and you receive the following error message:

"You have been removed from this conversation."

Resolution

To fix this issue, install the June 7, 2016, update (KB3115033) for Lync 2013 (Skype for Business).

Note Lync 2013 was upgraded to Skype for Business in April 2015.
