Heavy traffic to domain-based URLs when Lync 2013 (Skype for Business) connects to Exchange by using Autodiscover

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When Microsoft Lync 2013 (Microsoft Skype for Business) connects to Microsoft Exchange, it uses Exchange Autodiscover information and connects to the following URLs:
  • https://your domain/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
  • https://autodiscover.your domain/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
This might lead to unnecessary traffic to your domain-based URLs.

To optimize the client behavior, Microsoft Lync 2013 (Microsoft Skype for Business) now accepts the ExcludeHttpsRootDomain setting from Microsoft Outlook.

"ExcludeHttpsRootDomain"=dword:00000001

Note Lync 2013 was upgraded to Skype for Business in April 2015.
