Symptoms

When you browse the Internet with Internet Explorer 5.5, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
A fatal Exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C001545A.
A fatal Exception 0D has occurred at 0246:014F47FB.

Cause

This problem can occur when McAfee Web View startup files are running.

Resolution

To work around this problem, try the following methods in the order that they appear.

Disable Startup Options

1.Click Start, and then click Run.
2.In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.
3.In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click the Startup tab.
4.Click to clear the check boxes next to the following startup items:
Mgavrtclexe
McAfeeWebScanX
5.Click OK, and then restart the computer.

Disable Registry Entries

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

If the problem persists, follow these steps:
1.Click Start, and then click Run.
2.In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3.Locate and select the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
4.Right-click any entry that has "MGAVRTCLE.EXE" in the data column, click Delete, and then click Yes.
5.Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
6.Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
