Office tile says“Office 365” when activating a one-time purchase of Office

Symptoms

If you buy a new PC with an Office 2016 bundle, such as Office Home and Student 2016, and you click on the Microsoft Office tile to activate the product, the “Welcome” screen will be labeled as “Microsoft Office 365” instead of the name of the one-time purchase that was sold with your new PC.

Resolution

This is only a labeling problem on the “Welcome” screen.




Once you click Activate, you are taken to http://office.com/setup where the edition is correctly labeled.



Once activated, the correct name of the product you purchased with also be correctly labeled on your http://office.com/myaccount page.

More Information

This issue occurs with the older V15.4 OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK). It does not occur with the newer V16.x OPK.
