This step-by-step article describes two ways to control incoming connection to a virtual server: By limiting the number of simultaneous connections, and by setting a connection timeout value.
Restrict Incoming Connections and Set Timeout Values
- Click Start, click Programs, click Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
- If administrative groups are enabled, expand the administrative group in which the server that you want to use is located.
- In the console tree, click Server, expand the server, and then double-click Protocols.
- Double-click SMTP, right-click the SMTP virtual server that you want to work with, and then click Properties.
- In the Properties dialog box, click the Delivery tab, and then click Outbound Connections.
- In the Outbound Connections dialog box, make sure that the Limit connection to check box is selected (checked), and then type a value in the Limit connection to text box.
- Make sure that the Connection Time-Out check box is selected (checked), and then type the new timeout value (in minutes) in the Connection Time-Out text box, typically between 30 and 90 minutes.
- Click OK twice to quit the Properties dialog box.
