Summary

This step-by-step article describes two ways to control incoming connection to a virtual server: By limiting the number of simultaneous connections, and by setting a connection timeout value.

Restrict Incoming Connections and Set Timeout Values

  1. Click Start, click Programs, click Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. If administrative groups are enabled, expand the administrative group in which the server that you want to use is located.
  3. In the console tree, click Server, expand the server, and then double-click Protocols.
  4. Double-click SMTP, right-click the SMTP virtual server that you want to work with, and then click Properties.
  5. In the Properties dialog box, click the Delivery tab, and then click Outbound Connections.
  6. In the Outbound Connections dialog box, make sure that the Limit connection to check box is selected (checked), and then type a value in the Limit connection to text box.
  7. Make sure that the Connection Time-Out check box is selected (checked), and then type the new timeout value (in minutes) in the Connection Time-Out text box, typically between 30 and 90 minutes.
  8. Click OK twice to quit the Properties dialog box.
