Windows Server Backup fails when you back up multiple volumes in Windows Server 2012

Symptoms

This issue occurs when you try to back up multiple volumes to a backup destination that's located on a network attached storage device in Windows Server 2012. When this issue occurs, you receive an error message that looks something like this:

Backup of volume VolumeLabel X: has failed. The specified backup disk cannot be found.
