Cause

This behavior can occur if the downloaded Exchange 2000 Server SP1 installation files are incomplete or have become corrupted, possibly during the download process. Alternatively, the Install program may view the files as incomplete if the five parts of the Exchange 2000 SP1 set have not all been decompressed.

This behavior can also occur if you specify different destination folders for the decompressed files. If you accept the default settings, the decompressed files are stored in the following location:
Drive:\Documents and Settings\current username\Local Settings\Temp\Setup\i386

Resolution

To resolve this behavior, perform one or both of the following procedures:
  • Download and decompress the installation files again.
  • Verify that you have a good installation set of Exchange 2000 Server SP1:
    1. Make sure that the destination folder for decompressed files has 8,865 files and 235 folders, totalling 218 megabytes (MB) (228,636,338 bytes).
    2. Make sure that the following downloadable SP1 file sets have the appropriate properties after decompression:
      • Part 1 (E2KSP1_setup1.exe): 102 files, 6 folders, 54.6 MB (57,265,894 bytes)
      • Part 2 (E2KSP1_setup2.exe): 116 files, 37 folders, 40.6 MB (42,636,755 bytes)
      • Part 3 (E2KSP1_setup3.exe): 66 files, 18 folders, 22.5 MB (23,609,679 bytes)
      • Part 4 (E2KSP1_setup4.exe): 7,758 files, 164 folders, 60.0 MB (63,016,238 bytes)
      • Part 5 (E2KSP1_setup5.exe): 623 Files, 25 folders, 40.1 MB (42,107,772 bytes)
