FIX: An unexpected local address is displayed in Wireshark on a device that is running Windows Embedded Compact 2013

Introduction

This article describes an issue in which an unexpected local address is displayed in Wireshark in Windows Embedded Compact 2013. An update is available to resolve this issue. Before you install this update, all previously issued updates for this product must be installed.

Symptoms

Assume that you have a Windows Embedded Compact 2013 device that has a Local Area Network validated. When you use the Wireshark network protocol analyzer and run the IPCONFIG command, you receive an expected local address that resembles the following:

290 28.236702000 :: ff02::1:ff14:77e6 ICMPv6 78 Neighbor Solicitation for fe80::9c3:6e65:c914:77e6

Additionally, when you use a display filter in the Wireshark network protocol analyzer, you receive an unexpected local address that resembles the following:

ff02::1:ff14:77e6 ICMPv6 78 Neighbor Solicitation for fe80::9c3:6e65:c914:77e6

Note The following registry setting could invalidate the Duplicate Address Detection (DAD) message of IPv6:

DWORD name: ArpRetryCount
DWORD value: 0

  • On the Build menu, click Rebuild Solution.
You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.
