"DISP_E_MEMBERNOTFOUND" error and proxy authentication issue in Internet Explorer 11

This article describes some issues that occur in Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. A hotfix is available to fix these issues. Before you install this hotfix, see the Prerequisites section.

Symptoms

On a computer that's running Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7 SP1, or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, you may encounter one of the following issues.

Issue 1

The ActiveX control doesn't fire an event when it invokes the event handler function, and Internet Explorer 11 returns a DISP_E_MEMBERNOTFOUND error.

Issue 2

Internet Explorer 11 fails over to the secondary proxy. However, it also passes the authentication context of the primary proxy in the request header.

Resolution

To apply this feature, install the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer through Microsoft Update. Additionally, see the technical information about the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer.

Hotfix information

Important If you install a language pack after you install this hotfix, you must reinstall this hotfix. Therefore, we recommend that you install any language packs that you need before you install this hotfix. For more information, see Add language packs to Windows.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that's described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

If the hotfix is available for download, there's a "Hotfix Download Available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section doesn't appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to get the hotfix.

Prerequisites

To install this hotfix, you must have April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) installed in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. Or, you must have Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 installed.

Note Install MS15-124: Security update for Internet Explorer: December 8, 2015 before you install the hotfix that's described in this article.

Registry information

To apply this hotfix, you don't have to make any changes to the registry.

Restart requirement

You may have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information
