The grayed-out status of the "Revolution R" service in Cloudera Manager in CDH5 is normal.
The "Revolution R" service for a parcel installation is not a running "service" in the usual sense. There is no process to start or stop or available action to take. What this service does is perform a one-time configuration of the Revolution R environment at installation time, setting up the Revo/Hadoop environment and making sure expected shared directories exist in HDFS.
It can be deleted and re-added at any time to rebuild the Revolution R run time environment to ensure it matches the CDH environment. For example, following an upgrade of CDH itself.
