XADM: Public Folder That You Create Through OWA Does Not Become Mail-Enabled

Symptoms

When you create a public folder through Outlook Web Access (OWA) in Internet Explorer 5.0, the new folder may not become mail-enabled.

The Exchange 2000 information store generates Event ID 9543, which indicates that the system attendant cannot create a public folder proxy object. The following entry appears in the Application log of Event Viewer:
Event ID: 9543

Description:
Unable to create public folder proxy object for folder folder_name in the Active Directory.

Cause

This behavior can occur if the display name of a public folder is longer than 255 characters. The system attendant can neither create a public folder proxy object nor truncate the name.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
