Page loads repeatedly and authentication fails when users use MFA in Windows Server 2012 R2 AD FS

This article describes an issue that occurs when users use multi-factor authentication (MFA) in Windows Server 2012 R2 Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS). A hotfix is available to fix this issue. Before you install this hotfix, see the Prerequisites section.

Symptoms

This issue occurs when users try to log on to AD FS through proxy from a web browser on client computers. Meanwhile, you set the authentication rule to use the "X-MS-Client-User-Agent" claim type to match these client computers.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that's described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
