Non-ASCII characters are removed from search box in Skype for Business or Lync 2013

When you type special characters that use ALT+number key codes or the AltGr key in the search box in Microsoft Lync 2013 (Microsoft Skype for Business), the first search is complete as expected. However, for subsequent searches, when the special character is the first character to be typed, the character is removed, and only ASCII characters remain.

Resolution

To fix this issue, install the September 8, 2015 security update (KB3085500) for Lync 2013 (Skype for Business).

Note Lync 2013 was upgraded to Skype for Business in April 2015.
