View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

In a Microsoft FrontPage Web, when you insert a link to another Web page whose Uniform Resource Locator (URL) contains a space, that space is replaced with the following characters
%20
when you view the HTML code for the link in FrontPage.

Cause

This behavior occurs because FrontPage automatically inserts %20 into any empty spaces in a URL for the sake of compatibility with browsers that do not accept spaces in a URL.

Workaround

This behavior is by design.

More information

Because spaces have special meaning in most programming languages, other characters or sets of characters (in this case, %20) are used to eliminate the empty space.
